The Old City of Jaffa was lit in pink Saturday night as part of the Estée Lauder company's global campaign, which began 11 years ago with the aim of increasing awareness to breast cancer.
This year, the project's initiators seek to enter the Guinness Book of World Records under a special category: "The number of historic buildings lit in pink."
More than 200 historic sites worldwide will be lit in pink throughout the month of October, including the Taj Mahal in India, Australia's parliament house, Schoenborn Palace in Austria, and dozens of fascinating sites in the United States, Mexico, Chile, Greece and other countries.

In 1992, Evelyn Lauder and Self magazine developed the Pink Ribbon and launched the breast cancer global awareness campaign, which is currently taking place in more than 70 countries.
So far, more than 110 million pink ribbons have been distributed, millions of information booklets have been handed out across the world, and tens of millions of dollars have been raised for research aimed at finding a cure for the disease.
The breast cancer awareness campaign in the Holy Land is being held with the help of the Israel Cancer Association (ICA). Different sites across the country have been lit in pink in recent years, including Jerusalem's Chords Bridge and Tower of David, Tel Aviv's Azrieli Center and Shalom Meir Tower and Ramat Gan's Moshe Aviv Tower.
"The Israel Cancer Association leads the battle against breast cancer on all fronts, starting with research, early detection, therapy and treatment," says ICA Director-General Miri Ziv. "The current project is a significant landmark in social action in Israel and worldwide."
