Gaza rocket fired at south; IDF retaliates

Air Force jets bomb tunnel in northern Strip shortly after rocket hits Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. No injuries reported

Air Force jets attacked a tunnel in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday shortly after a rocket exploded in southern Israel. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said a direct hit was carried out.

 

The strike was carried out in response to the firing of a Qassam rocket which exploded in the Hof Ashkelon regional Council on Tuesday. No injuries or damage were reported.

Palestinian sources reported that the IAF attacked an open area near Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip. There were no injuries, they reported. Residents in the Sderot area reported hearing two loud blasts after midnight and estimated they originated from Gaza.

 

On Monday, a Qassam rocket fired from Gaza exploded in an open area in Sderot. No injuries or damage were reported.

 

A rocket was also fired from Gaza on the eve of Israel's Independence Day last week and landed at the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council. No injuries were reported.

 

On Tuesday, the IDF carried out a strike in Gaza following fire exchanges in the border fence area. The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said that terrorists opened fire at an IDF force near the fence. No injuries were reported but damage was caused to two armored vehicles. In response, the IAF and Armored Corps forces fired at suspicious targets.
