Drugstores battle for customers
In attempt to win over more and more shoppers, two of Israel's leading drugstore chains, Super Pharm and New Pharm open 2009 with unprecedented sales
The battle of the drugstores in 2009 has intensified. On Thursday, Super Pharm announced it would put a range of over 200 products on sale for NIS 9 ($2.3) each, all throughout January.
In addition, anyone purchasing an array of basic beauty and hair products will be offered another product at the price of NIS 1 (about 25 cents).
Fans of more luxurious beauty products will not be left out either, with a 'buy 2, get 1 free sale' offered in this section.
Products to be sold for NIS 9 include a 100 ml tube of Colgate toothpaste, 700 ml of Dr. Fischer's Kamil Blue soapless soap, and a 2.7 pound box of laundry detergent.
New Pharm not staying behind
The New Pharm chain also welcomed 2009 with a line of hundreds of brands of cosmetics, perfumes, basic and luxurious beauty products and baby products being offered at half price, in a sale that will last until January 27.
In addition, anyone making a purchase of over NIS 149 ($39) will receive a ticket to the cinema at half price.
So where does it pay off?
The Super Pharm sale will last longer, and a comparison of the sales shows that if you plan on buying more than one perfume, Super Pharm is the better choice.
However, consumers seeking to buy single products are better off at New Pharm, as most of the single hair and make up products, including more luxurious brands, cost less at New Pharm.
When is it best to buy a single product from Super Pharm? As long as the product is one of those on sale for NIS 9 each.
On Sunday, January 4, the Hamashbir Lazarchan department store will be joining in the battle, at least as far as perfumes go.
For 10 days, until January 14, the chain will offer a 'buy 1, get 2 free sale'.
