Yahad
None
The Yahad party was created in 2004 with the merging of Meretz, Yossi Beilin’s Shahar Movement, and Roman Bronfman’s Democratic Choice Party. Yachad, which means “together” in Hebrew, is also an acronym for “Social-Democratic Israel.”
Beilin, a former Labor Party minister and Knesset member, and one of the architects of the Oslo Accords, is current party leader. Beilin is also one of the main sponsors of the Geneva Initiative peace plan.
Yahad calls for an immediate resumption of negotiations with the Palestinians and supports a peaceful resolution based on the pre-1967 borders that would mean dismantling most settlements in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Other issues important to the party include human rights, social justice, welfare policy, liberal education, gay rights and separation of religion and state.
