Terror Victims Sue Palestinians

Two Israelis who sustained injuries in 2001 attack seek NIS 70 million in compensation

TEL AVIV - Two Israelis who sustained injuries in a 2001 terror attack are seeking NIS 70 million in compensation from the Palestinian Authority.

The two filed a lawsuit at the Tel Aviv District Court today.

Liora Goldman, 28, and Arieh Levy, 40, say the injuries they suffered in the Tel Aviv suicide bombing caused them severe physical and emotional damage.

A suicide bomber detonated himself outside a nightclub in the city’s Dolphinarium compound in June 2001, killing 23 people.

Goldman, formerly a distinguished Law student, sustained serious injuries and says she suffers from anxiety, depression, sleep deprivation, and brain damage to this day. Levy says he, too, suffers from anxiety attack and recurrent nightmares.

The lawsuit charges the Palestinian Authority with funding the terror attacks, and relies on a document uncovered by the IDF during operation Defensive Shield in 2002. The document in question details a financial grant transferred to the suicide bomber’s father by the Palestinian government.

The lawsuit also claims the Palestinian Authority and the Palestine Liberation Organization violated explicit obligations made in agreements signed with Israel in Oslo, Washington, and Cairo.
