Patriots' owner donates stadium

Cost an estimated USD500,000, includes artificial playing surface

JERUSALEM - Super Bowl champions New England Patriots' owner Robert Kraft is expected to visit Jerusalem later this month to inaugurate a football stadium he funded.

The construction of the new football stadium in Jerusalem’s Sacher Park, including an artificial playing surface, was made possible after Kraft made a donation to the Jerusalem Foundation. Kraft Stadium is used for youth and adult soccer, American-style "flag" football and softball leagues.

Kraft is scheduled to arrive in the country on February 23 along with his wife, Myra, to take part in the stadium’s opening ceremony.

The “Kraft Family Stadium,” which cost an estimated USD500,000, is the first of its kind in the country and is intended for the use of the American Football Association in Israel.

Kraft, a Jew who grew up in the Boston area, comes from a family that has contributed regularly to projects in Jerusalem. The family also has business interests in the country.

Kraft's Patriots won their third Super Bowl in four years Sunday night.
