Rabbis call for cell phone ban
Several months ago, leading rabbis called no the ultra-Orthodox public to refrain from using existing cell phones because they provide access to “tainted” content.
The rabbis later designated a special “rabbi committee for communication affairs” to examine proposals for a “kosher” phone.
In order to avoid imitations, the phone would display a special image when turned on. The device itself would also receive a “kosher stamp.”
