Reform Judaism

None

Reform Judaism seeks to reconcile historical Judaism with modern life and does not require strict observance of traditional religious law and ritual.

Rabbi Isaac Mayer Wise (1819-1900) is considered the architect of Reform Judaism, which was introduced in America in the 19th century. Today Reform Judaism is the largest Jewish movement in North America, with more than 900 congregations and 1.5 million people.

One of the basic tenets of Reform Judaism is that a Judaism frozen in time is an heirloom rather than a living fountain for the Jewish people. While Reform Judaism affirms the central tenets of Judaism, it also acknowledges the diversity of Jewish beliefs and practices.
