ZAKA is a volunteer organization in Israel committed to the recovery and identification of human remains, particularly in the case of terror attacks.
ZAKA volunteers tend to be Orthodox Jews. According to Jewish law, all human remains must be properly buried, which is why ZAKA volunteers painstakingly search the sites of terror attacks.
ZAKA also has mobile rescue units and works in cooperation with Israeli law enforcement and emergency personnel in responding to incidents of terrorism, accidents and disasters.
