The Bedouin community in Israel is a minority within the state's Arab population.
There are about 170,000 Bedouin in the country, with 110,000 in the Negev, 10,000 in the central region and some 50,000 in the north. The Bedouin in the Negev came from the northern part of the Arabian Peninsula, while the Bedouins in the north came from Syria.
Many Bedouin, particularly those from the north, volunteer to serve in the Israel Defense Forces.
