'Terror reminiscent of Holocaust’

Shin Bet Chief Avi Dichter says during Kibbutz Lohamei HaGetaot Holocaust ceremony ‘Our defense force is acting against the Palestinian murder machine;’ Mofaz: ‘We must aspire to establish culture of life that directly contradicts the evil doctrine that aimed to annihilate us’

KIBBUTZ LOHAMEI HAGETAOT - Shin Bet Chief Avi Dichter compared Palestinian terrorism to the horrors of the Holocaust Thursday.

During a Holocaust commemoration ceremony held in Kibbutz Lohamei HaGetaot, Dichter, who is the son of Holocaust survivors, said the Palestinians are using an “annihilation machine” against the Jewish nation.

“Terror attacks have destroyed the lives of people who were sitting in restaurants or shopping; suddenly we were experiencing something we had not experienced since the Holocaust, as a grandfather, a father, and a child were killed in one attack - the heart trembles” he said.

“But we will not wait for the world to help us. Our defense forces are acting against the Palestinian murder machine to reduce the hurt.”

During the ceremony Dichter spoke of his parents, who survived the Holocaust and made it to Israel.

"Those who thought of severing the chain of life got their answer,” he said as he addressed the Holocaust survivors on hand. “We are the generation of successors, and we have difficulty understanding how you, the survivors, drew the strength to come and build a home in this country after leaving the death chambers.”

Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said during the ceremony “We must continue to document and teach this dark chapter in the history of mankind and instill it in the Israeli education system and around the world.”

“We must aspire to establish here a culture of life that directly contradicts the evil doctrine that aimed to annihilate us,” he said.

IDF chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon said during his speech, “Every Jew must see himself as though he had been saved from the oven."

"60 years later, we stand here today to say in a loud and clear voice that the nation of Israel lives and it has a sovereign, independent, and thriving state and a strong army."
