The rocket landed on a bakery in the Western Galilee town of Shlomi, which is located in close proximity to the Israel-Lebanon border, No injuries were reported, but severe damage was done as a result of a fire that broke out on the premises.

IDF, police, and fire department forces have arrived at the scene.

Shlomi’s Independence Day celebrations were cut short due to the incident.

Shlomi Municipality Head Gabi Naaman said the rocket landed just minutes after Independence Day fireworks lit up the skies. Fortunately, no one was in the bakery due to the holiday, he added.

"In my estimation, the attack was carried out in response to the celebrations in Israel," Naaman said.

Senior IDF officials who arived at the scene estimated the IDF would not respond immediately to the attack. They also said they do not believe Hizbullah is behind the attack, but rather smaller, independent organizations.

In August 2003 16-year-old Haviv Daddon was killed and four others were wounded when a Katyusha hit Shlomi.

Last November two Katyushas were fired from Lebanon at the Western Galilee region. At the time the IDF decided to refrain from responding to the attack.

The security establishment has increased its focus on the northern border region after Hizbullah was able to fly drones over Israeli skies on two separate occasions.

At the time Hizbullah said in a statement “the organization would utilize drones each time the enemy would infiltrate and hurt Lebanese sovereignty with the use of its planes.”
