Serial killing suspect nabbed

Haifa resident Nicola Boner suspected of murdering four acquaintances in recent months and burning their bodies. Suspect confesses to killings and expresses regret. Police initially ruled out foul play in some of the cases

HAIFAGruesome discovery: Haifa police have detained local resident Nicola Boner, 32, on suspicion of murdering four acquaintances, some of them roommates, in recent months and burning their bodies.

The Haifa Magistrate’s Court cleared the story for publication Monday.

The latest revelation comes on the heels of others murders that have shocked Israelis in recent days, including the strangling of a 15-year-old girl and a shooting attack that left a child and her aunt dead.

During a court hearing, police representative Meir Levi said the suspect, who was detained Sunday following a long investigation, confessed to the killings and reenacted them.

Meanwhile, a judge extended Boner’s remand by 15 days and ordered that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation during that time. The suspect’s attorney requested that his client’s mental state be examined in order to decide whether he sis fit to face justice.

Boner moved to Israel from Moldova five years ago. During the hearing, he said the victims did not treat him right, but added he is sorry he killed them.

“Regarding the (murdered) woman, I didn’t know she will die. I only beat her up,” he said.

However, Boner was unable to explain why he burned the bodies and claimed he was intoxicated at the time of the killings.

Victims beaten to death

Boner’s first victim was apparently Rita Walman, who was murdered on February 9 this year. Police initially thought the death was a result of an innocent fire. Three more bodies of men were discovered separately later.

In some of the cases, investigators first dismissed the possibility of foul play but a post-mortem examination revealed the victims were murdered.

A police investigator told Ynet Monday morning the link between the four cases was discovered due to the similar characteristics of the killings and the handling of the bodies.

“We realized there was a regular pattern repeating itself, and through intelligence information and investigative activity we reached the suspect,” he said.

The investigation revealed Boner apparently beat all victims to death, before burning their bodies.
