Knesset: army retirees to wait before entering politics

A Knesset Legislation Committee of ministers has approved a law forcing IDF Chiefs of Staff and Major-Generals to undergo a "cooling off" period before they can enter politics.

The law was submitted by MK Yuval Steinitz, and stipulates that army retirees must wait two years before running for Knesset, and four years before being eligible for the position of prime minister. The law will also apply to high ranking police figures. (Ilan Marciano)
