Reservists are answering the call of of their conscience, Breiman says

Returning the 'Arab occupation'?

Thousands of reservists to march to Gaza while Sharon's list of victims grows

Thousands of reservists, answering the call of their conscience, have begun to march in the direction of Kissufim junction: the entrance to Gush Katif.

They didn’t get official call-up notices, but they will be there, each and every one of them, secular and religious, marching under the blue and white flag – decorated with orange ribbons – the flag of the struggle to safeguard the Jewish, Zionist and democratic nature of the Jewish state. A state where citizens are not thrown out of their homes because of their nationality or their religion.

They will find, as the army chief put it, determination and sensitivity: Determination to save this country from its prime minister, and sensitivity for the safety and honor of the soldiers and policeman of Israel who have been sent on an impossible mission, by orders of a clearly illegal nature: The order of transfer.

The meeting place between these thousands of reservists and their brethren, IDF soldiers and policeman, will be near the Kissufim junction, at a kibbutz whose name represents the yearning and the longing of generations of Jews for Eretz Israel.

In this place, the struggle against an idea that is adversative to the Zionist one: The goal of concentrating the Jewish nation in the Jewish country.

At the Kissufim junction, they will stand and face each other, thousands of our reservists from east of the “Green Line”, and thousands of settlers from beyond that line. And in the middle – the soldiers and policeman of Israel, overwhelmed with doubt about the justice of the absurd mission they have been sent to carry out.

Anniversary of historic attack

The timing of this meeting is planned for its proximity to the day in which a daring retaliatory mission was sent out from Kissufim this week, 51 years ago.

On the night of July 10, 1954, troops set out to attack the Arab enemy in the Gaza Strip, and none other than Ariel Sharon himself was injured in it.

Sharon founded and led Special Operations Unit 101 to “fight the rising tide of Palestinian terror emanating from Judea and Samaria that were under Jordanian occupation, and from the Gaza Strip, that was under Egyptian occupation,” the Prime Minister’s Office web site states.

Today’s Sharon is working hard and insensitively to return the Arab occupation to those areas again.

At the opening ceremonies to last week’s Maccabiah games, Sharon called upon the Diaspora Jews to come on Aliyah. But then Aliyah to Israel is likely to become another item on the long list of Sharon’s victims. His words do not match his actions. Jewish immigration to Israel is one of the main justifications for the founding and existence of the country

But the expulsion of Jews from their homes in their own land is a negative message to those potential immigrants. Why would they want to settle in a land that throws its sons out of their homes?

Sharon declared this week that as soon as the disengagement is over, he will take care of the problem of violence in this country. But after all, what is the expulsion of citizens of Israel from their homes if not an act of violence? The violent use of Israeli soldiers and policemen against their fellow citizens is an unforgivable act of violence.

Furthermore, the sending of policeman on this deplorable mission of “national importance” only exposes the citizens of Israel to further crime and other violent practices.

Open season

It’s open season in Israel, criminals can do what they like all over the country as long as Israel’s policemen and its soldiers are busy using aggressive action against its other citizens. The true mission of the police turns out yet more victims of Sharon.

And even the solidarity and the power of deterrence of the IDF can be counted among Sharon’s victims.

Solidarity, because the use of IDF soldiers for political acts contravenes its designated mission, its role, its values and its abilities; Its power of deterrence—because of the flight of the “most powerful army in the Middle East” from the occupying Palestinian army of a terrorist authority and other terrorist organizations.

In fact, the Sharonist Israel is disengaging from the war on terror, and actually, with its left hand, is helping set up a state, a training ground and the organization upon which to carry it out.

The bloody convoy called “disengagement” has already crossed many red lines, and it does not heed the stop signs. The victim count from this past week: five killed in a terrorist attack in Netanya, and one killed in a mortar shell attack in Netiv Haasara. These are Sharon’s victims, a direct result of the Prime Minister’s policy of flight.

And so the rule of law and order fallen victim to Sharon, when the law enforcement agencies allow him to get away with what he does instead of putting him on trial. A popular email floating around the internet today compares Sharon to the forefather Abraham.

Abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for the sake of the nation. And what of Sharon?
