Kfar Darom settlers to move to Ashkelon
According to an agreement, 60 families from the evacuated settlement of Kfar Darom will move to a high-rise apartment building in Ashkelon
Evacuees from the Gush Katif settlement of Kfar Darom signed an agreement Sunday night,ย under which ย 60 familes will relocate to a high-rise apartment building in Ashkelon.
ย
The families will move into the 14-storey building adjacent to a second high-rise where Netzarim evacuees will reside, according to a prior agreement.ย
Both buildings are in the final stages of construction, and families will live in hotelsย until work is complete. ยย
The Kfar Darom evacuees met with Ashkelon Mayor Roni Mahatzri Sunday evening to discuss school arrangements for their children, prior to the start of the new school year in two weeks.ย
They were also visited to the construction site to see their new homes.ย
The state is set to purchase the building from a Jerusalem contractor, who is obligated to buy back the homes at a reduced price in two years.ย
The Ashkelon Municipality has pledged to both the Kfar Darom and Netzarim evacuees that should they remain in the two buildings together, they would build a school especially for them.ย
A municipal official saidย he believed the evacuees will stay in Ashkelon for at least two years.ย
"There are hardly apartments left over ย for rent," he said. "Due to this we are working with Amigour to locate another site, to build an additional cluster of apartments for groups interested in this move."
