Large kitchen knife

A police investigation found that a Jewish youngster who was walking along David Street in east Jerusalem was stabbed by a Palestinian wielding a large kitchen knife. The victim was able to reach the local police station and reported the incident. When police officers arrived on the scene, they found an additional stab victim in critical condition.

Police commander Yoram Halevi, said: “At around 20:20, a Palestinian man reached the gates of the Old City. He ran into ultra-Orthodox Jewish men, stabbed them, and continued down the road. One of the stab victims, who was moderately wounded, walked to the police station."

At the same time, police received reports on the incident from witnesses. Police quickly arrived on the scene and found a critically injured man with stab wounds.

Halevi added that “the Palestinian stabber is between 30 and 40 years old. After stabbing his victims, he threw away his knife. The blade was around 30 centimeters long, maybe longer. The police does not know what the Palestinian’s escape route was, and video footage from closed circuit television is being examined."

“This attack was sudden. It’s a surprising and very rare incident in a bustling and usually peaceful area,” the police officer said.

'He had no pulse'

Hanan Rovev, a Magen David Adom paramedic, told Ynet: “We got a call at around 20:20. It was a radio message saying there were a number of stabbing victims by the Jaffa Gate in the Old City. We were the first paramedics on the scene and we evacuated the seriously injured person to hospital."

"We found him injured and without a pulse. He wasn’t breathing, and had a number of stab wounds in the center of his body. We started with resuscitation operations, and after a few minutes we brought his pulse back and evacuated him to hospital."

A second Magen David Adom paramedic, Bismat Yaakov, treated the second injured man. “He was stabbed in the lower Abdomen and bled a lot before we got there. He was in shock,” she said.

Aharon Pam, a Magen David Adom ambulance service spokesman, told Ynet: “I arrived here after a report that there were stabbings. The police told me that an Arab who came from the Muslim quarter stabbed two ultra-religious Jews. The condition of the first stab victim is serious, he is in intensive care.”

According to Pam, “the cameras in the Jewish and Muslims quarters identified the incident and therefore there was an immediate response. There is currently a manhunt on for the attacker.”

Deputy Minister Orit Noked, speaking after the terror attack, said that Israel would not hold back in the war on terrorism.
