TUI to offer Israelis charter flights
Europe's largest tourism corporation begins selling discounted flight tickets from Tel Aviv to Munich
TUI, Europe's largest tourism corporation, which has been operating charter flights from Germany to Tel Aviv for a number of months now, has began selling flight tickets to Israeli customers as well, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported Sunday.
So far, the corporation's flight tickets were only sold to Germans because the flights were fully booked. Now, Israelis will also be able to buy discounted tickets for available seats.
According to a statement issued by the Holiday Travel agency, representing TUI in Israel, one-direction flight tickets from Tel Aviv to Munich will be offered to Israelis for 59 Euros (about USD 72), including tax.
Israelis who choose to buy flight tickets to Germany through TUI will fly on new Boeing 737 aircrafts of the Hapag-Lloyd airline.
TUI's decision to start offering charter flights to Israel a number of months ago was welcomed by the Israeli tourism industry in light of a plan to transform Tel Aviv into the gay capital of the world, Israel's leading newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth had revealed.
Israeli tourism officials had said that they believe TUI's flights would facilitate the travel of thousands of gays to the country.
“It will be helpful to our initiative if they increase the number of flights to Tel Aviv,’ Israel Hotel Association Director-General Eli Ziv had said.
“Now the occupancy rate on these flights already stands at more than 80 percent for the next few months. In February they plan to increase the number of flights to three a week. If this will indeed happen, we will see an airlift of gays to Tel Aviv,” he added.
