Fuel company cuts off supply to PA

Palestinian Authority owes chief fuel supplier Dor Alon hundreds of millions of shekels; Dor Alon decides to halt deliveries until balance is paid

The Dor Alon fuel company decided to cut off fuel supply to the Palestinian Authority owing to the PA’s failure to pay bills worth hundreds of millions of shekels.

Dor Alon, chief fuel supplier for the Palestinian Authority, informed its client that it would halt fuel deliveries starting Sunday. The move could lead to serious problems in the PA, as within days gas stations are likely to run out of petrol.

The Palestinian Authority has accumulated hundreds of millions of shekels in unpaid bills to the fuel company. Last week, the PA wrote out a check to Dor Alon for NIS 160 million, but the check was cancelled.

Dor Alon has a monopoly on fuel supply to the Palestinian Authority. In 2005, the PA purchased 513,000 tons of solar, 87,000 tons of benzene and 117,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
