Tel Aviv terror attack foiled
Security guards at city's Central Bus Station apprehend 24-year-old Palestinian carrying dagger; suspect later admits he planned to stab Jews. In north, soldier claims Arabic-speaking men tried to kidnap him
Police sources said Sunday that security guards at Tel Aviv’s Central Bus Station prevented a terror attack when they apprehended a 24-year-old Palestinian who was carrying a dagger.
The Palestinian, from the village of Burkin in the West Bank, admitted during his interrogation that he intended to attack Jews.
During the evening hours, bus station security guards spotted the Palestinian, who was acting suspiciously. During the subsequent search of his belongings they came upon a dagger. Police were dispatched to the scene to arrest the would-be terrorist.
Police said later that the Palestinian entered Israel unlawfully.
Earlier on Sunday, an IDF soldier from the Galilee filed a complaint with Karmiel Police claiming unidentified men attempted to kidnap him in the morning.
'It may be difficult to track vehicle down'
The soldier said his father drove him to a junction northeast of Karmiel at around 10 a.m., where, as he was attempting to hitch a ride to his base, a black vehicle pulled up. According to the soldier’s testimony, an unidentified man stepped out of the vehicle and attacked him while three other Arabic-speaking men tried to forcefully shove him in the car, but he managed to escape. The four men then fled the scene in the vehicle, the soldier said.
The soldier added that he then continued to make his way toward the base, where he was examined by a doctor. His commander instructed him to return to Karmiel and file the complaint.
Karmiel Police Chief Effie Fartuk told Ynet that it may be difficult to track the vehicle down as the soldier filed his complaint some five hours after the incident, adding that the soldier was unarmed and that Military Police have launched an investigation of their own.
