Highway closed following bombing

In wake of Monday's terror attack, security forces seal road leading from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in order to inspect vehicles passing through; highway later reopened

Police closed the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway for traffic Monday evening in the section between the Abu Gosh and the entrance to the capital to allow security forces to conduct inspections of vehicles, in wake of the suicide bombing in Tel Aviv.

The closure prompted heavy traffic jams at the entrance to Jerusalem. Later in the evening, police reopened the road.

Meanwhile, officials reported that three people were detained near the Har'el Bridge on the highway on suspicion of involvement in Monday's attack. The suspects were taken in for questioning by security forces.

Shortly after the attack, police forces initiated a pursuit for a blue Mitsubishi that was seen fleeing the bombing scene. The vehicle was identified and stopped about an hour later and the three passengers, two of them Israeli-Arab citizens, were detained for interrogation. Questioning revealed they were in no way connected with the attack and they were released.

In an evaluation of the situation conducted by police following the bombing, it was decided that police officer will remain on high alert across the country and boost security at crowded sites and recreational areas including parks, open markets and synagogues. During the meeting, attended by Police Chief Moshe Karadi, it was also decided that roadblocks will be erected and patrols boosted across the nation.
