Roadblocks increase following bombing

Police on maximum alert, in possession of 17 specific terror warnings; 'Public will see more roadblocks, be patient,' says senior police source

A senior police source told Ynet Tuesday that "we're calling on the public to show patience and tolerance following the security checks that will be carried out across the country and the possible traffic jams." Security forces have 17 specific warnings on intentions of terrorist organizations to carry out attacks, out of 74 general warnings. Most of the warnings are coming from Samaria, in the northern West Bank, especially from the Islamic Jihad and Tanzim organizations.

24 hours after the attack in the area of the old central bus station in Tel Aviv, security forces are continuing their maximum state of alert across the country. The spreading out of the forces has changed a little, and currently the emphasis is on placing more roadblocks on entrances to the cities and within them.

Yesterday, following the attack, Police Chief Moshe Karadi held a situation analysis which concluded with a decision to continue with the increased security readiness and presence in large population centers and entertainment districts, as well as many shopping centers, parks, markets, and synagogues.

In addition, it was decided to put up more roadblocks, and to increase patrols along the three circles of security from the border with the West Bank to the inner cities.

Security forces have been on the highest level of alert for ten days – and will continue to do so until at least this weekend.

A senior police officer told Ynet: "We don't have anywhere to stretch ourselves, we are already on maximum alert. The only stage above this is an emergency situation and we are not in that situation. The public can expect to see many more roadblocks today than were up in the last few days, and we are therefore asking for patience. We must remember that we had a serious terror attack, and are in the shadow of many warnings. The Mimuna holiday is ahead of us, and then a weekend in which hundreds of events are expected."

The source added: "We will try to find the balance between security operations and possibility of letting civilians move as much as possible. We will increase our focus on those who are here illegally – and we call on the public to be vigilant for any suspicious person, or any suspicious object, and not to hesitate to call the police."
