Qassam lands in south; Palestinian killed in IDF retaliation

Rocket lands in open field, causing no injuries; IDF responds with artillery fire at northern Strip. Farmer seriously wounded by shelling, later dies of wounds

Rocket attacks continue: Palestinians fired a Qassam rocket at Israel's western Negev region Friday morning. The rocket landed in an open filed, causing some damage to a nearby orchard. No injuries were reported in the incident. The IDF bombarded the northern Gaza Strip area in response to the attack.

 

Meanwhile, Palestinian sources in Gaza reported that a Palestinian farmer was seriously wounded by shrapnel from an IDF shell. According to reports, the shell landed in the farmer's field east of Jebalya, and injured him critically; he later died of his wounds. 

 

The IDF's Southern Command confirmed launching an artillery attack at the Strip, but noted that no reports regarding injuries on the Palestinian side have been brought to their attention.

 

Two Qassams were fired at the western Negev on Thursday. One of the rockets landed near Sderot's cemetery, and the other fell in an open field outside of town.

 

In a separate incident, Palestinian gunmen opened fire at an IDF force operating near the Gaza security fence on Friday. No injuries or damage were reported.

 

West Bank operations

 

During army operations in the West Bank, Palestinians hurled an explosive device at an IDF force operating in Nablus. No injuries or damage were reported. In a separate operation, soldiers arrested an Islamic Jihad activist south of Jenin.

 

In addition, a Border Guard unit arrested a Palestinian man during a routine inspection at a checkpoint near Bethlehem, after he was found to be carrying a 15 centimeter knife.

The knife was confiscated and the man was detained for questioning.
