EMC Buys Israeli startup nLayers

Data storage systems supplier buys privately held software mapping company based in California for USD 50 million
Associated Press|
Data storage systems supplier EMC Corp. on Wednesday said it bought nLayers, a privately held Israeli software mapping company headquartered in San Jose, California, for USD 50 million.
EMC said the acquisition is not expected to materially impact its 2006 revenues or earnings. The company projects earnings per share of 54 cents to 57 cents.
Chris Gahagan, senior vice president of EMC's resource management unit said the acquisition provides the company with "a highly strategic and complementary technology" for its Smarts' suite of data management applications.
According to nLayers' website, its flagship product is nLayers Insight, a device that maps and monitors connections between applications and computers.
NLayers' Israeli development center will continue to operate in Israel after the merger with EMC.
EMC expects nLayers technology will help identify and correct problems that might interrupt data flow across IT networks.
