Actor Jeff Goldblum coming to Israel

Jewish American actor invited to Jerusalem International Film Festival. Opening July 6, festival lasts 10 days and will screen 200 films

American Jewish actor Jeff Goldblum will arrive in Israel in July to take part in the 23rd Jerusalem International Film Festival.

Goldblum, who starred in numerous feature films including Jurassic Park, The Fly, and The Third Day, will be accompanied by his friend, Israeli Hollywood producer Ehud Bleiberg.

The trip will be Goldblum's first to the Holy Land. Festival organizers said the Hollywood actor wants to familiarize himself with Israeli cinema.

Goldblum, 54, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and started his acting career on stage in New York at the age of 10.

His short but remarkable appearance in Woody Allen's Annie Hall (1977) marked the debut of a cinematic career that spanned over three decades.

In 1976, he featured in David Cronenberg's The Fly along with Geena Davis, whom he married a year later.

In the 90s Goldblum appeared in a number of blockbusters which included Jurassic Park and The Third Day.

Directors Roman Polanski and Atom Egoyan are on the list of big names drawn to the festival this year, which also include actresses Debra Winger and Kim Cattrall, and documentary filmmaker Alan Berliner.

The 2006 Jerusalem International Film Festival will last 10 days, during which 200 Israeli and foreign films will be screened.
