Report: Air Force renews attacks on Beirut

Lebanese television station reports two powerful explosions in Hizbullah district of south Beirut

The Air Force has renewed attacks on southern Lebanon, a Lebanese television station reported. According to the report two loud explosions were heard in the southern Hizbullah district of the city.

One of the bombings was apparently directed at Hizbullah's military buildings, while the second attack was directed east of the first target.

At 6 p.m. it was reported that the Air Force attacked over 70 targets in Lebanon since the morning hours. That number has now climbed to around 150.

The targets include: Two arms and equipment caches belonging to Hizbullah, three Hizbullah training camps, a suspicious vehicle used as a Fajr 3 launcher, a Hizbullah office, two bridges used by terrorists to move around, and 23 Katyusha rocket launching zones and routes used to access them by terrorists.

Strike at Hizbullah leadership

On Wednesday night Air Force warplanes leveled a building in the Burj al-Barjna refugee camp in southern Beirut using over 20 tons of bombs, following intelligence on a gathering of Hizbullah leaders in the bunker. Hizbullah however claimed that no top Hizbullah figures were killed in the attack.

IDF Land Forces Commander Major General Benny Gantz said Thursday during a briefing that up until now 3,000 attacks, out of those 150 being carried out today, have taken place since the start of fighting.

The attacks resulted in "a very large number of killed and injured Hizbullah members, many strikes on infrastructures, targets, arms, and launchers," according to Gantz.

He added that “this effort will go on for a period of time which we are prepared for and in total the accomplishments, with all of the difficulties, are building up; this is very effective activity."

The United Nations believes that half a million Lebanese citizens have left their homes – most from southern Lebanon and the Shiite southern districts.
