Brigitte Bardot to Peretz: Prove you are man of peace
Legendary French actress sends personal letter to Israeli defense minister demanding he order ‘immediate halt to bombardments that are harming Lebanese civilians’
Legendary French actress and sex symbol Brigitte Bardot is taking on Defense Minister Amir Peretz.
In a personal letter, the 72-year-old actress sent to Peretz via the Israeli embassy in France, Bardot charged: “You present yourself as a man of peace, but your lack of flexibility broadcasts the image of a man of war. I demand you prove you are a man of peace by ordering an immediate halt to the bombardments that are harming Lebanese civilians.”
Bardot penned the letter after the fatal incident in the Lebanese village of Qana, in which dozens of civilians were killed in an IAF air strike. Bardot, who in her youth was popularly considered the most beautiful woman in the world, noted in her letter that the French government had issued severe criticism of the deadly air strike in Qana.
She evoked the Holocaust to illustrate man in a state of absolute insanity, and asked, “Are the survivors of genocide liable to act as ruthless rulers? I don’t believe so.”
Bardot further claimed that in addition to the killing of innocents, the Israeli bombardment caused severe environmental damage to the Mediterranean shore.
In closing, Bardot demanded Amir Peretz prove he is a man of peace. “I put my faith in you, but my prayers I reserve for the Lebanese victims,” she wrote.
Bardot gave up her acting career 30 years ago and has since devoted her life to animal rights activism. In the framework of her animal rights activism, Bardot frequently sends letters to government figures and senior ministers.
