Rabbi Ovadia Yosef evacuated to hospital again

Rabbi hospitalized for third time in two weeks after feeling unwell. Yosef underwent angioplasty about 10 days ago

Shas' spiritual leader, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef (86), was evacuated to the Hadassa Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem Saturday evening after feeling unwell.

The rabbi was evacuated on the recommendation of his personal physician, Dr. Yohanan Shatsman, who reported that Yosef was suffering from a virus. Rabbi Yosef was driven to the hospital in his car, accompanied by Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Eli Yishai.

About a week and-a-half ago, on Monday, Rabbi Yosef underwent angioplasty at the hospital, after doctors identified that the 86-year-old leader had suffered heart functioning irregularities.

The hospital reported that the procedure was completed successfully.

Professor Chaim Lotan, arrived from Switzerland in order to perform the procedure, along with Hadassah’s general director, Professor Shlomo Mor-Yosef. Dr. Boris Varshitzky and Prof. Dan Gilon also participated in the procedure.

The hospital said that Rabbi Yosef had successfully undergone a catheterization procedure and stint implants. The rabbi's aides reported that the surgery was successful and that "any other fear regarding his health has faded."
