Ein Harod: Streams in the valley – part 2

Washerwoman, tanner and doctor on wheels take you through milestones in history of 85-year-old kibbutz

Eighty-fives years have passed since the foundation of a kibbutz near the Harod stream, a kibbutz that later split into two neighboring kibbutzim.

On the occasion of Ein Harod's birthday this month, a collection of pictures from the kibbutz's early days are currently on display at the Beit Shturman Museum. Following is a sampling from the exhibition.

Shortly after they overcame the difficulties of their first days in the area – dried the swamps and moved from tents to permanent structures - the members of Ein Harod started looking for other means of employment. Harnessing the power of the stream, they activated machines for the processing of leather and founded a tannery. In the picture: Nahum Nitzan standing near the machine

A shoemaking workshop was established next to the tannery
