MK Naveh sues Iran president

Likud Knesset member joins former top Israeli officials to draft lawsuit against Ahmadinejad over ‘repeated remarks regarding his intent to wipe Israel off the map’

Likud Knesset Member Danny Naveh has teamed up with a group of former top Israeli officials, among them former Ambassador to the UN Dore Gold and former Foreign Ministry Director-General Eytan Bentsur, to draft a lawsuit against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

The lawsuit will apparently be lodged with the International Criminal Court at The Hague.

According to the lawsuit, “the Iranian president’s repeated remarks regarding his intent to wipe Israel off the map, coupled with his efforts to convince others to participate in such an act point to the fact that the annihilation of Israel is a central goal of Iran’s foreign policy.”

The lawsuit further charges Ahmadinejad with “public and direct incitement to commit genocide.

“Therefore, the UN Security Council should oust Iran from the supreme international body,” the lawsuit suggests.

'Dramatic change of direction needed'

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Monday and voice her criticism over the “helplessness in the fight against Iran.”

According to Naveh, “the Foreign Ministry must change its course, wake up and initiate actions that would lead to international pressure on Iran and its leader.

“Israel must lead the international campaign against Ahmadinejad’s call to commit genocide,” he said. “Until now the Foreign Ministry has sat idly by and done nothing. The Foreign Ministry must make a dramatic change of direction.”
