Kibbutzniks salute Gaza evacuees
Kibbutzniks and evacuees meet in solidarity ceremony in Negev. MK Effie Eitam: Evacuees, kibbutzniks should come together because of similar ideologies
The Executive Secretary of the Kibbutz Movement Ze'ev Shor told Ynet that he appreciates the evacuees. "Here we have the true pioneering of the year 2006. We appreciate and salute this settlement in the Negev," Shor said.
Shor stated that during the evacuation from Gaza, the kibbutzim helped the farmers who were forced to leave their homes and greenhouses behind without regard to the political views of the kibbutz members.
Among those attending the ceremony was Knesset Member Effie Eitam (National Unity-NRP). Eitam, who grew up in kibbutz Ein Gev by the Kinneret told Ynet about the closeness between the two sectors: "We and the kibbutzim must join together again. We share the same ideology. My feelings are of someone who is not a politician, but someone who grew up within the kibbutz movement."
Before he arrived at the scene, Eitam met with the organizers in order to bridge the gaps they had between them.
"From the moment we met, it was easy for us to melt away any suspicion and stigmas. We have no ideological argument. We are partners. We split apart and became enemies because of the question of the West Bank settlements. But today, as Israel is facing these dangers, we need those movements more than ever. I believe that the Kibbutz Movement can give renewed hope and renewed trust in our qualities as a people, as a nation, and in our strength."
