Defense minister testifies before Winograd Committee
Members of committee probing Lebanon war failures to question Peretz on decision-making process before and during fighting
Peretz answered the committee's questions for approximately five hours, addressing the decision making process and the consultations he held with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert before the start of the second Lebanon war.
The defense minister was asked about the definition of the war's objectives and the predictions regarding its length. He was also asked about the information and data he had as a basis for his decisions.
Peretz was also asked about the diplomatic aspects of the war, the political-diplomatic activity and the IDF's ground operation after Security Council Resolution 1701.
On Thursday, Former IDF Chief of Staff Moshe Yaalon is expected to testify before the Winograd Committee for a second time.
At the beginning of the month, Peretz met with parents who lost their sons in the war and stressed that he has no plans of resigning his post as defense minister.
However, Peretz stated that if the Winograd Committee rules that he is responsible for certain failures, he would not hesitate to draw personal conclusions.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni testified before the committee Tuesday.
Livni, who was part of the Security Political Cabinet during the war was questioned on the cabinet's decision-making process at the time, and on her part in the approval of UN Resolution 1701.
