2 Qassam rockets fired from Gaza Strip

One rocket lands in Ashkelon's industrial zone, causes damage to building; four workers lightly injured

Two Qassam rockets were fired from the northern Gaza Strip Tuesday morning toward the city of Ashkelon. One of the rockets landed in the city's southern industrial zone, where a building was slightly damaged.

Four workers were lightly injured and were rushed to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon.

The second rocket landed in an open area near Kibbutz Zikim.

People working in the area said that the blast sound was extremely loud. "This time it was different," one of the workers said. "The explosion was accompanied by a very loud whistle and the alert system was activated.

"We were asked to stay in fortified rooms according to procedures, and returned to our work several minutes later. There is no doubt, however, tat this time it was very frightening."

The recent rocket barrages have violated the relative calm in the western Negev, but there is still a feeling that the rocket fire is not as continuous as it used to be. Security sources in the area have clarified, however, that the calm was deceiving and that an escalation was expected.

Alon Schuster, head of the Shaar Hanegev Regional Council, said that sources in the Southern Command warned of massive fire which could reach 100 rockets a day.
