When’s Shavuot again?
A step-by-step guide on how to add the Jewish holidays to your Outlook, Google or Yahoo calendars
When does Passover end? What’s the last day of the counting of the Omer? If you need to consult a printed calendar to answer these questions, apparently your computer calendar isn’t set to mark the Jewish holidays. So how do you install the Jewish calendar? ynet offers a step-by-step guide on how to update your Outlook, Google and Yahoo calendars.
Outlook
1. Enter Tools menu. Choose Options > Preferences, and click on Calendar Options.2. In the window that appears, click on Add Holidays (in the center of the window to the right). A small window should appear with a list of holidays.
3. Check the box by Jewish Religious Holidays. Click ok on all three open windows, then close the program and restart.
Google Calendar
You can also add Jewish Holidays to your Google Calendar. On the Google homepage click More> from the options list, then Even more> from the menu that pops up. You’ll find the Calendar option under the "Communicate, show & share" heading. After signing in, click the plus sign (+) by the heading Other Calendars. In the search window that opens up, type Jewish Holidays.
This brings up a number of location-specific options, which include all the Jewish holidays as well as Hebrew dates and Shabbat candlelighting times.
Now all you have to do is click Add Calendar and it will be added to your Google Calendar.
Yahoo Calendar
When it comes to Jewish holidays, Yahoo has already done most of the work. Sign in to the Yahoo Calendar. Under the Calendar menu option, choose Calendar Options. In the new window, select Holidays.Select Religious from the category list. Select Jewish Holidays, click the Add button, then choose Save on the bottom left of the page.
To see the additions, return to Calendar homepage and select the Months folder. The only drawback of the Yahoo calendar is that it doesn’t include Israeli national holidays. Oh well, maybe next year.
