Helen Mirren to star in film on Gaza
New movie about Gaza Strip set to feature Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, according Sunday Times
A new movie about the Gaza Strip is set to feature Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, according to a report in London's The Sunday Times.
According to producer Andy Harries, the film does not take a political stance but is rather "much more a human interest story."
“The movie is inspired by events in Gaza and not by any particular real incident," Harries told the Sunday Times.
The highly acclaimed Mirren, 61, has been cast as a Jewish woman living in the Gaza Strip. Her daughter, who works as a journalist and is dating a Palestinian, is shot and killed.
Mirren earned an Oscar this year for her performance as Queen Elizabeth II in The Queen, which deals with events ensuing Princess Diana's death.
The film is directed by Philip Martin based on a script by Frank Deasy.
The two planned to visit Gaza in April to continue their research, but cancelled their trip after the kidnapping of BBC reporter Alan Johnston.
Due to the danger, the filmmakers changed their destination to Jordan, the newspaper reported.
