India: Missing Israeli backpacker found

Sa'ar Revivo, who went missing Wednesday, found safe and sound Friday after search teams, local police cooperate on search

Sa'ar Revivo, 23, from Beersheba, who went missing in India several days ago, was found safe and sound in the northern part of the country. Revivo spoke to his father in Israel on the phone shortly after he was found.

"I was in shock, I was so moved," Revivo's father told Ynet Friday. "Everyone started to yell and then the line got disconnected, but I heard him and he's alive and that's all that matters."

Revivo left for India with two friends in May. Around 6 pm Wednesday, his motorcycle was found abandoned on a bridge near Manali with all his equipment, including his personal belongings and passport.

Overnight a search team was set up to scan the area for Revivo first thing in the morning in cooperation with local police. The Foreign Ministry has updated the Revivo family on the initial details.

It is not yet clear why Sa'ar abandoned his motorcycle. His father said all he understood from the brief phone conversation was that his son had a high fever and had felt unwell.

"There was great panic because of what happened to Dror Shek," one of Sa'ar's friend's fathers told Ynet. Shek, another Israeli backpacker in India was killed by bandits earlier this week. Shek's body was finally flown to Israel Thursday, and he was laid to rest.

Revivo's mother and older sister said they stilled planned to fly to India. Although their original intention was to search for the boy, now they just want to see him safe and sound, and are hopeful they can convince him to come home.

According to Revivo's father, Sa'ar left for India with his friends after completing a difficult army service. His plans were to continue on from India to Thailand and then Australia.
