IDF troops shot three Palestinians as they approached the fence along the border between Israel and the Gaza Strip Saturday, killing one and lightly injuring the other two, military sources said.
According to the IDF, the soldiers fired when the Palestinians appeared to plant an explosive device. The sources did not immediately say whether the operatives were carrying other weapons.
The army called the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza to send an ambulance to evacuate the dead Palestinian on the Gazan side of the fence. The two Palestinians who were lightly injured were taken for questioning, they said.
Earlier in the day, five unarmed Palestinians infiltrated into Israel. They were caught and arrested two hours later by soldiers on the Israeli side of the fence. They five were transferred to security forces for questioning.
