Empty vision is back

Despite leftist claims, pursuit of two-state solution only led to death, suffering

President Shimon Peres, who functions as a super-foreign-minister, declared in Turkey that Israel has adopted the “vision” of a two-state solution. “Now everyone can see we were right,” say the leftists, including members of the Meretz and Labor parties who preached this idea for many years. Their views are now the government of Israel’s policy.

Yet this is a tragic mistake. The fact that centrists and rightists adopted the leftist theory does not mean the Left was right. The withdrawal from the territories, the departure from Judea and Samaria towns, and the complete pullout from the Gaza Strip have led to terrorism and repeated threats on us for a decade and a half already.

The desire to rid ourselves of the “occupation” leaves us stuck with Qassam rockets and a terror state in Gaza. It also leads us to build fences and endless roadblocks. Yes, the leftist theory is now being subjected to human experiments, and we can all see the results.

The radical Left won only when it comes to former rightistx following the path it outlined. This is just like two doctors who argue about the medicine that should be given to their patient. Finally, one of them gives in and agrees to give him the wrong medicine. The victory that was achieved is about the argument, not about the results.

Have fun with your speeches

After 15 years of dialogue and recognition of the Palestinian entity, Mahmoud Abbas, the latest “moderate figure,” is still unable to recognize Israel as a Jewish state. Even after the members of Kadima and the Zionist parties yell out what used to be the elections slogan of the leftist Hadash party, “two states for two peoples,” moderate Palestinians are unable to recognize the Jews’ right for a state of their own.

Ever since we scaled back the “occupation,” in the mid 1990s, thousands of people died around here and millions more became miserable – many more than during all the years of the occupation put together. This is precisely what it looks like when the Left is right. Yet this is merely the prelude to the great vision mentioned by the president during his visit to Turkey.

Surprise, surprise. The Palestinians do not intend to recognize, in a genuine mental way, our right for the Jewish State. They will not give up on east Jerusalem and apparently not on the right of return either. Agreements, should they be reached, will be violated as quickly as they were signed. Nothing will change.

As it turns out, the Palestinians are more leftist than Yossi Beilin and Meretz. Shimon Peres, this time in the capacity of president, will travel around the world and establish joint industrial zones and industrial parks that will flourish until they evaporate into thin air. After all, the “peace process” is indeed an ongoing industry, with a “vision”, and “policy,” and with conferences and photographs and a sympathetic press. Have fun with your speeches.
