Thousands visit Holocaust Victims Assets website

Over 10,000 people visited the Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims Assets' website following the publication of a list of 55,000 names of share holders

Some 55,000 names of Holocaust victims who purchased bonds of the Jewish Colonial Trust were published today on the Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims Assets' website, 62

years after the end of WWII. In less than 24-hours, over 10,000 people visited the site and 350 applicants contacted the company's call center.

JCT, the parent company of the Anglo Palestine Bank, the predecessor of Bank Leumi, was founded by Herzl in 1899, to serve as a financial instrument for the Zionist movement. Most victims owned between one and three shares.

The Company for Location and Restitution of Holocaust Victims Assets recently took hold of 61 percent of the shares with a total value of NIS 200 million ($51 million). Holocaust victims and their heirs can check the list at www.hashava.org.il.

"This is a remarkable project," said Yishai Amrami, Director of the Company for the Restitution of Assets of Holocaust Victims. "We are dealing with an exceptionally large number of stockholders. We are seeking to give their relatives what they deserve."

Amrami said any unclaimed money at the end of 12 months will be distributed among destitute survivors.
