Israeli busker may be crowned Underground queen
Israeli singer and street performer Hadar Manor, who has been playing on the platforms of London's Underground for years, makes it to the finals of subway's music competition
Hadar Manor, an Israeli singer who resides in London, is one of the two finalists in London's Queen/King of the Underground competition, which included hundreds of street performers who appear regularly on the city's Underground's platforms.
The winner in the competition, held by Capital Radio and the London Paper, will receive a 5,000 pound prize, and his or her live show will be broadcast on the radio station.
Hadar was one of the first performers to appear in the London Underground after it was opened to busking in 2003. The Israeli singer performs with her guitar, playing her original songs as well as covers to popular hits in English and Hebrew.
She won much publicity after starring on the South Bank Show on TV, received raving reviews for her music in the national press and also participated in Galstonbury, one of the world's most important musical festivals, last year, on the BBC's promising talents stage.
In recent years, Hadar has appeared regularly in clubs and festivals in Britain, winning critical acclaim despite critics' difficulty to define her style. She is influenced by British and American rock and pop music, as well as Middle Eastern music and Israeli artists such as Ehud Banai and Berry Sakharof.
The finals of London's Queen/King of the Underground competition will be held this coming Thursday. Voting for the contenders takes place on the competition's site. So, if you wish to support Hadar, click here.
