Italy recognizes Kosovo's independence

The ANSA news agency says that the Italian government has approved recognition of Kosovo as an independent state at a Cabinet meeting.

Several countries, including the United States and Germany, have already recognized Kosovo, which declared its independence on Sunday in a move that angered Serbia and Belgrade's key ally, Russia. (AP)
