'If Iran strikes we'll run it to the ground,' warns Ben-Eliezer

National emergency drill sees Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer visit ministry's situation room. Any Iranian attack on Israel will have severe repercussions for Islamic Republic, he says

National Infrastructure Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer said Monday that "an Iranian strike on Israel will lead to an Israeli response that will devastate the Iranian nation."

The national emergency drill held in Israel this week, he added, "does not simulate a fictitious situation. I think the future will be much harder that the reality we are familiar with."

As part of the drill, dubbed "Turning Point 2" Ben-Eliezer visited the National Infrastructure Ministry's situation room, where the minister and the heads of the Israeli energy commissions such as the water, power and gas administrations, will gather in a time of national crisis.

"I believe an initial strike on Israel would see hundreds of missiles hit us... all of Israel will be within range of Syrian and Hizbullah missiles."

"We, as a ministry, must be prepared for the possibility our strategic facilities will be hit. We have to be ready for the worst case scenario; but nevertheless, this drill is a test of readiness for us and should not be perceived as a threat to any of our neighbors," said Ben-Eliezer.

As for Iran, the national infrastructure minister seemed unfazed: "The Iranians won't be rushing to attack Israel because they are well aware of the repercussions. They are well aware of our strength, but they bait us by providing weapons to Syria and Hizbullah, which we have to deal with."

Earlier Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini, said Israel's drill was meant to "boost the morale of the Israeli commanders and their soldiers," and called for the region's states to "discuss these hostile actions with senior officials in the international community."

Hosseini also claimed that the drill was a direct result of US Vice President Dick Cheney's recent visit to the Mideast. "Unfortunately, after every visit of senior American officials in the region and the occupied territories we witness similar actions by the Zionist regime."
