Soldier suspected of posting nude photos of female troops on internet
Military Police say corporal serving in Eilat naval base took photos of female soldiers in the shower, tried to extort one of them. Defense attorney: He merely played a prank
Military Investigative Police have detained an IDF soldier suspected of taking photos of female soldiers with his cell phone while they were showering.
The soldier, who serves at a naval base in Eilat, allegedly sent the nude photos to the female soldiers and posted them on the internet.
Investigators tried for weeks to track down the soldier, who had contacted a female soldier under the pseudonym "David S. via the ICQ instant messaging computer program and sent her nude photos he had taken of her.
An examination of the photos indicated that they were taken at the naval base in Eilat, and investigators asked the court for a warrant allowing them to track "David S." down through his IP address. They also turned to ICQ for additional details on the suspect.
Information provided by telecommunications service provider Bezeq revealed that the photos were posted through a computer belonging to a female resident of Eilat. Police later found out that a corporal who serves at the naval base in Eilat resides in the women's apartment.
The soldier was subsequently arrested, and police confiscated two computers, a SIM card and computer CDs from the flat.
According to the allegations, the soldier was apparently looking to extort at least one of the female soldiers, while he posted a nude photo of another female soldier due to a personal rivalry that developed between them on the base.
A military court ruled that the suspected would remain in custody until Wednesday so that police may conclude the investigation against him.
The suspect's attorney, Benny Kuznitz, said following the hearing that the soldier "merely played a few pranks".
