Ali Campbell, Sly & Robbie to perform in Israel

Double reggae celebration to take place in Tel Aviv's Hangar 11 club in November, with gigs by former UB40 lead singer and one of reggae and pop world's most prolific production teams

Two exciting gigs will be held in Tel Aviv's Hangar 11 club in less than a month. The evening of November 20 will see performances by British singer Ali Campbell, UB40's former lead singer, and Sly & Robbie, one of the world's greatest reggae musicians and producers who have recorded albums and performed with thousands of artists for years.

The special guest that evening will be Israeli singer Mosh Ben Ari. A ticket for the event, which will be part of the Pepsi Max Music Show, will cost NIS 229 (about $60).

Last January, 49-year-old Campbell with the famous nasalizing voice, retired from the UB40 band, which he founded in 1973 at the age of 19.

The band's spokesman said at the time that Campbell was unable to fully commit to the group, and that the rest of the band's members were disappointed and saddened by the decision after working as a family for almost 30 years.

During his gig in Israel, Campbell is expected to perform all of his former band's hits, this time with different musicians on the stage.

Jamaica's Sly & Robbie are two of the world's busiest musicians. A drummer and a bass guitar player, their career began in the 1970s and they became two of the most popular studio instrumentalists in the music industry in general, and in the reggae industry in particular.

Over the years they played, produced and cooperated with musicians of the likes of Mick Jagger, Paul McCartney, Britney Spears, Sting, No Doubt, Gregory Isaacs, Matisyahu, Jimmy Cliff, Serge Gainsbourg, Ben Harper, Peter TOsh and dozens others.

The two have also released dozens of albums of their own, had two chart hits - "Boops (Here We Go)" and their cover version of "Night Nurse" with Simply Red – and have been performing on stages worldwide for many years.

In Israel they will perform with reggae and dance singer Cherine Anderson and nine other musicians.
