Israeli pop star wins third place in category of Europe's Favorite Act at European Music Awards held in Liverpool

Israeli singer Shiri Maimon won third place in the category of Europe's Favorite Act at MTV's European Music Awards, held in Liverpool last Thursday. Turkish artist Emre Aydin came first in the category.

Although she did not win, the Israeli pop star gave a memorable performance at the ceremony with a song in English from her latest album.

Maimon gained entry in the contest after she was chosen on the MTV Israel website, beating the famous Izabo Israeli band.

She also won the votes of many European surfers who remembered her from her successful appearance at the Eurovision contest in Kiev in 2005, where she came in fourth place.

Former Beatle Paul McCartney stole the show at the ceremony, as he was named Ultimate Legend. The other big winner was Britney Spears, who won Act of 2008 and Album of the Year. She did not attend the event.

McCartney was one of several stars on the night to pay tribute to Barack Obama following his victory in the US presidential election this week.
