History of Polish Jews exhibit opens in Tel Aviv

'Polin – Thousand Years of the History of Polish Jews' exhibit opens in Beth Hatefutsoth Museum as part of Polish Year in Israel; museum's 30th anniversary

On December 4 a new exhibit will open at Beth Hatefutsoth Museum, "Polin – Thousand Years of the History of Polish Jews."

The exhibit from the Museum of the History of Polish Jews will present 1,000 years of Jewish history in Poland through seven films, each of which will pertain to a different historical era.

From the exhibit

The films will create a voyage through time, from the Middle Ages to the present. The exhibit will be on display at the Sarah Cohen Auditorium at the Beth Hatefutsoth Museum in Tel Aviv University, and will remain until September 29, 2009.

The exhibit uses the present as the primary point of reference for history. To this goal, the central area of the exhibition is reserved for a Discussion Forum, a place for reflection on the importance of history for the contemporary world here and now.

Voyage through time

The exhibit will be accompanied by a rich program of meetings that include conversations with reporters, scientists, historians, designers and youth who will discuss the present day significance of history, the impact of Polish Jews on the establishment and the character of the State of Israel, or the ways in which contemporary arts have commemorated history and in what ways that has been significant.

The films the exhibition presents correspond with the galleries of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, which will open in Warsaw in 2011. The exhibit is part of the 30th Anniversary of Beth Hatefutsoth, and Polish Year in Israel.
