Report: Michel Aoun met Mossad agents in Paris

French daily reports Lebanese general forced into exile in 1990 met with Israeli secret agents over many years despite warnings from French intelligence

Michel Aoun, head of the Free Patriotic Movement Party in Lebanon, met with Mossad officials while in exile in France, the French daily Le Figaro reported Friday.

The report said the Christian general, who served as prime minister before being forced into exile, held numerous meetings with the agents between the years 1991-2005. It said Aoun disregarded warnings by French intelligence to discontinue the meetings.

According to the report, Aoun has been more supportive of Hizbullah and Damascus ever since his return to Lebanon in 2005, after 15 years of exile. Two years ago he called on Lebanese Prime Minister Fouad Siniora to resign during a rally numbering 800,000 participants.

General Aoun served as prime minister of a military government and in 1988 attempted to force Syria out of Lebanon. He failed, however, and was thus forced into exile in 1990. He escaped to Paris and resided in France until his return in 2005.
