Border Guard unit stars in Discovery series
International documentary on elite police units around the globe dedicates episode to Israeli officers
The world will soon get acquainted with the Israeli Border Guard unit through a documentary series on special police units around the world titled "Elite Police."
The Discovery Channel production, which is set to air in dozens of countries across the globe, premieres this week in South Africa.
The series was created by former British SAS commando fighter Chris Ryan, who participated in numerous operations in places like Iraq, Libya and terror hubs in Africa.
Ryan visited Israel with his filming crew and accompanied a Border Guard unit for an entire week, documenting its fight against human trafficking and drug and weapon smuggling on the southern border.
The crew also focused on the unit's training methods and even joined it for a drug bust.
In addition to the Israeli unit, the series deals with special police units in Brazil, Columbia, Kazakhstan, Poland, Mexico and Sri Lanka.
The Border Guard episode airs in Israel on January 12.
