Australian school probes anti-Semitic net groups

Prestigious all boys' college tries to track down founders of Facebook groups who identified themselves as students, posted anti-Semitic comments online

The prestigious Australian Scots College is currently attempting to track down a number of anonymous students suspected of involvement with anti-Semitic internet groups.

The founders of the anti-Semitic groups presented themselves as students of the all boys' college, located in one of Sydney's most affluent suburbs.

The Age news site reported Wednesday that the Facebook groups may be comprised of a number of the school's alumni, making them harder to find.

Scots principal Ian Lambert said he would consider monitoring the internet to detect Scots-based groups. "I'll ask to see if we have the expertise and ability to do that (monitoring). If that's possible, that's something certainly we will do," The Age quoted Dr. Lambert as saying.

"There are a number of different communication technologies that are difficult for us to monitor. How far the college can expand its resources to do that, we will certainly reflect on that and do everything we can."

He also laid blame on television shows such as 'South Park', which encourage "politically incorrect" humor and the debasement of others. He said the culprits, when found, would be punished accordingly.

Lambert also stated that according to his investigation, the groups had not been accessed from the school's computers. He said students and faculty could not access Facebook from within the college.
