Have you hugged a Jew recently? For anyone looking for an excuse, Monday, February 1 was Official Hug a Jew Day, and for those who missed it, it's not too late to get one in.
The cuddly 'holiday' was started by American Jew Eitan Abir who posted the event on the popular social network Facebook, and set the date as the first Monday of every February.
Monday was the second annual Hug a Jew Day to take place, with almost 240,000 people confirming their attendance in the Facebook event alone, and probably hundreds of thousands of hugs given out.
People from all over the world are welcome to join in the event, Jews and non-Jews alike, to show some love for their Jewish friends, neighbors and acquaintances.
In the description of the event, Abir clearly states that all Jews are included under his definition, whether only part Jewish, conservative, reform, Orthodox, or any belonging to any other sect of Judaism.
The creator of the event also issues a warning to those less acquainted with the practices of more religious Jews who can not tough a stranger from the opposite sex, and advises huggers to ask permission before putting their arms around anyone.
